Meet The Kramer 890RR

Only 125 units of the Kramer GP2-890RR will go on sale, each priced on par with the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2

If you haven’t heard the word ‘Kramer’ before, don’t be surprised. Based in Bavaria, Kramer is a boutique motorcycle manufacturer, solely focusing on the niche everyone craves, but only a few can get—race bikes. It produces limited quantities of its motorcycles, each loaded with nothing, but the highest quality components.

Why are we telling you this? Well, because the German bikemaker has a new weapon in store for 2024. Called the GP2 890RR, it takes inspiration from the exclusive KTM RC 8C, only to promise even more power and extreme componentry. Here’s why it’s the ultimate middleweight sport bike you can buy right now.

Diving right in, the Kramer 890RR employs an 889cc, twin-cylinder engine, seen on the KTM 890 Duke. While it produces 120-ish horsepower in its road-going avatar, the RR takes the figure up to 138 ponies (at 10,100 RPM) and 73.7 pound-feet (at 8,200 RPM). The RC 8C, in comparison, maxes out at 135 horsepower and 72 pound-feet.

Credit for this goes to a plethora of internal updates. The mill now boasts high-compression pistons and titanium connecting rods, both from Pankl. This is paired with titanium valves, a new race-spec camshaft, and Dell’Orto fuel injection with 48 mm throttle bodies. These, along with a custom-tuned ram air intake, allow the engine to redline at 11,500 RPM and run at a 14:1 compression ratio. All this while, the stainless steel two-into-two exhaust ensures a screaming note.

Since not everyone has Marc Marquez-like control, Kramer has happily loaded the 890RR with plenty of rider aids. You get traction control (nine levels + off), wheelie control (five levels + off), engine braking control, and throttle maps, all adjustable on the fly and managed by a Mectronik system. A six-axis inertial measurement unit, quick-turn throttle, and pit lane speed limiter are also standard equipment.

But that’s not all. The Mectronik ECU allows riders to fine-tweak several aspects of the motorcycle, well beyond the already on-offer bits. Concurrently, an AiM MXS 1.3 dash sits in the center of the cockpit for easy access to all electronics. This also acts as an in-built data-logging system.

Next up, underpinnings. Kramer has built the 890RR around a special chromoly steel trellis frame, powder-coated to red. It suspends on WP Apex Pro 7543 upside-down forks (120 mm travel) and WP Apex Pro 7746 monoshock (140 mm travel), both fully adjustable. In fact, the latter is connected to a progressive linkage, so you can also adjust the ride height along with the compression, preload, and damping. Speaking of adjustability, the 890RR’s clip-ons, steering damper, footpegs, swingarm, and steering head are all adjustable too.

Back to underpinnings, the track-only sport bike rolls on ultra-light Dymag UP7X wheels. These 17-inchers are forged from aluminum and come shod with Pirelli Diablo Superbike SC1 slicks straight from the factory. The braking setup is top-tier too, comprising Brembo Stylema calipers up top (with 290 mm rotors) and a Brembo P2 rear caliper (with a 230 mm disc).

Finally, the 890RR has a tweaked design over its 2023 890R. It wears new fiberglass fairings that serve two purposes. First, they reduce aerodynamic drag by nine percent, and second, they help keep the bike’s weight super-low (just 313 pounds; same as the RC 8C). Another noteworthy element is the tail-mounted fuel tank, built from rotationally molded plastic. It doubles up as the subframe and housing for the foam seat. You should also know Kramer offers the 890RR in two finishes - Brno Blue (in matte finish) and Brainerd Black (in gloss finish).

With such expensive components, no one would expect the 890RR to be easy on the pocket. And with a price tag of $39,995, we can happily confirm it isn’t. That’s hard to afford for most of us, and we’d suggest you help yourself to a Ducati Panigale V2 SP for similar money. But don’t forget the article title. The 890RR isn’t for everyone, and Kramer wants only a few of you to get your hands on its beast. This is also why only 125 units will go into production, making each one a prized possession. Plus, we expect the RR to sell for a higher amount in the future, so you could very well make some profit off it. Psst, use the last statement to get your significant other on board for buying the Kramer. Thank us later.
